Farmers Market Renamed to Honor Former Mayor Dixie P. Hibbs

Renaming Ceremony to Commemorate Legacy of Former Mayor

Bardstown, KY Apr 23, 2024 — The City of Bardstown is proud to announce the upcoming dedication ceremony of the Bardstown Farmers Market Pavilion to the incomparable Dixie P. Hibbs. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place on Friday, April 26th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 200 E. Flaget Street in Bardstown.

Dixie Hibbs, a beloved and well-known figure throughout Bardstown, served as mayor from 2003 to 2007. She played a pivotal role in the 2005 establishment of the Farmers Market Pavilion during her mayoral administration. Beyond her tenure as mayor, Hibbs’ dedication to the community has left a lasting mark, reflected in her nine terms as a Bardstown City Council member from 1982 to 2002, as well as her continued service through various civic and nonprofit organizations. As Bardstown's unofficial historian, Hibbs is especially recognized as a pillar of knowledge, sharing stories of Bardstown's history through lecture series, special events, and numerous published works, including books and pictorial histories centered on Bardstown.

The dedication ceremony set for Friday will celebrate the contributions of Dixie P. Hibbs to Bardstown and Nelson County. Residents and friends of Bardstown are invited to join in commemorating this event and expressing gratitude for Hibbs's influence on the community.
